Eddie Aikua was a Hawaiian lifeguard and surfer. As the first lifeguard at Waimea Bay on the island of Oahu, he saved over 500 people and became famous for surfing the big Hawaiian surf, winning several awards including the 1977 Duke Kahanamoku Invitational Surfing Championship.

The Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational (“The Eddie”)  which is held at Waimea Bay is named in his honor.  This is where the greatest big wave surfers in the world  gather to honor the Hawaiian Legend. Clyde Aikau his brother, asked me to do the official
painting for next year’s event. I was honored to do this for the Aikau family and continue the
legacy of Eddie Aikau.
The original painting on canvas depicts Eddie on an enormous wave described as a guillotine, wearing his classic red and white shorts and surfing his classic red surfboard. I donated the image to the Aikau family to raise money for this event, each and every year. I did, however, keep the publishing rights for this new limited edition metal print that I will hand sign. A true collectible for surf and ocean lovers around the world.
