And only an artist like Wyland could reveal the magic moment of one of these gentle leviathans as it prepares for a deep sounding into the depths. “There is something almost mysterious in the moment a whale submerges,” Wyland says. “It happens quickly, but the image can linger with a person for years. It certainly continues to remain one of my favorite moments in nature.”
