Wyland sculpted this piece to capture the stunning moment when the mother humpback whale raises her newborn calf to the surface as the escort circles nearby. According to Wyland, “I wanted this sculpture to tell the story of the humpback’s new birth and feature the escort who plays an important role in the survival of this new miracle of ocean life.”
